UI, Prototype

The previous design of the shoppable room makeover page presented a range of challenges. Since many of the furniture and decor pieces featured would eventually go out of stock or be discontinued, the page required frequent manual updates to keep it current. This not only consumed significant time and resources but also frustrated users who often clicked on items that were no longer available. Furthermore, the lack of engaging media left the page feeling static and uninspired, failing to capitalize on the rich photography and videography our brand had invested in.

The goal of the redesign was to create a dynamic, visually captivating page that would:

  1. Leverage Photography and Videography – We wanted to feature our high-quality imagery and video content to inspire customers and create a more immersive shopping experience.

  2. Improve Product Management – The new design needed to streamline the management of product availability, ensuring that customers were only shown items that were in stock or had similar alternatives available.

  3. Enhance User Experience – We aimed to provide a frictionless shopping experience, where users could easily explore, learn about the makeover, and shop directly from the page without the frustration of broken links or unavailable products.

Discovery and Research

Internal Stakeholders

Competitive Analysis

We began by taking insights from internal stakeholders to better understand the pain points. Some key findings included:

  • Customers were drawn to the idea of shopping a celebrity's room makeover but were disappointed when items they clicked on were unavailable.

  • Internal teams were frustrated by the manual process of updating product availability.

  • Our audience was highly visual and responded well to interactive and inspirational content, indicating a need to feature more engaging media like photography and videos.

We also conducted a competitive analysis of brands with similar shoppable experiences, noting how they handled product availability issues and integrated rich media content to enhance the shopping journey.

Final Design & Key Features

Addition of interactive hotspots on the images, allowing users to click on featured furniture or decor items and view product details or add them to their cart. This transformed the page into an engaging, shoppable experience while maintaining the focus on high-quality imagery and storytelling.

Feature full-width photography and embedded videos that walked customers through the makeover journey. By using visual storytelling, we sought to inspire customers and help them imagine the products in their own homes.

Conclusion

The shoppable room makeover page redesign successfully addressed the challenges of product availability while delivering a visually rich, inspiring shopping experience. By incorporating dynamic product updates and leveraging our photography and videography, we created an immersive and seamless journey that not only delighted users but also supported key business goals.
